Lubo, a street artist, was conscripted into the Swiss army in 1939 to defend the national borders. Shortly after, he learned that his wife had died while trying to stop the authorities from taking their three children, who were separated from the family due to their Jenisch heritage, as part of the national reeducation program for street children (Hilfswerk für die Kinder der Landstrasse). Lubo knew that he would never find peace until he had reunited with them.
